After rocking a couple of sets playing exclusively 7" vinyl at their 'Digga Please' parties, DJs Shepdog (Nice Up) and Kombine (Jazz Cafe) officially inducted me into the crew - so it's only right I represent with a mix based on my recent live set for them!

Expect pure block party vibes from this one: Classic Hip Hop laced with Soul, Funk, Disco, B-Boy breaks, Reggae/Dancehall and 90's RNB, No FX, no multitracking, just a crate of crackly 45s mixed, scratched & juggled (with a couple of sneaky edits so you don't have to hear my records skip!).

I was recently commissioned by Urban Edge Promotions to create this 10 minute long mix of classic and well-known 80's B-Boy tracks for a series of forthcoming live shows - I ended up going in on it pretty hard, every track on here is re-edited or remixed in one way or another! As usual with my mixes there is also a fair bit of juggling & scratching involved, but not too much as the focus here is on the dancers.

If you are a bit of a music geek you may notice I used the break from the UK hip hop classic 'Untitled' by Hardnoise in my remix of White Lines - if you really know your stuff you may even feel inclined to point out that 'untitled' was released in 1990, not in the 80's, but guess what? I don't care. Anyway, enjoy!

Uptown Saturday Night returns to Camden's Lockside Lounge for the first of our bi-monthly sessions in 2013: All eras Hip Hop, 90s Hip Hop Soul & RnB, 80s Soul & Boogie, Funk, Rare Groove and more. A contemporary popular black music history lesson selected and mixed by three of London's most in demand club movers: MR THING (BBE / Extended Players), CHRIS READ (BBE / Music of Substance) and MATMAN (DMC / Droppin Science).

Entry just £3 before 12am and £5 after. Doors open til 3am!

In the summer of 2012 I was invited to dj at the Chocolate Bear Productions annual barbeque here in London, alongside a ridiculously sick line up of djs - we were all asked to choose a genre to play, I went for New Jack Swing, and it went a little something like this…

For those that don't know, the New Jack Swing sound of the late 80's and early 90's brought together Hip Hop and R & B for the first time, to great commercial success. I first encountered it as a 9 year old, when I had the Ghostbusters 2 soundtrack featuring Bobby Brown's 'On My Own' on heavy rotation in my oversized walkman! This mix includes a lot of the biggest dancefloor classics of the time alongside a few not so well-known joints, and of course plenty of Teddy Riley productions.
